Neighborhood Organizations:
Springfield Preservation and Revitalization:
a non-profit community organization whose mission is to provide leadership to residents of Historic Springfield to revitalize the district, preserve historic properties, and restore the community through its diverse programs and services. SPAR bylaws state: “The purpose of SPAR Council is to stimulate preservation, reinvestment, and community activism in the Springfield Historic District, while maintaining the integrity of its structures and history.”
Springfield Animal Care and Rescue Club:
SACARC is a registered 501c3 organization that was founded in March of 2006 in response to a posting on the SPAR forum board by a Springfield resident asking for help to rescue some of the strays in the neighborhood. Since then, SACARC has successfully found forever homes for over 300 animals. We are comprised strictly of volunteers who dedicate their time to help us achieve our goals. All animals are housed in foster homes until they find their forever home.
This is an organization of neighbors who have banned together to save the historical houses in the neighborhood, ones that are/were in danger of demolition by the city. We also have a wonderful event called ‘Make it Happen’ in which any and all are invited to participate to help someone who otherwise cannot help themselves…we’ve painted, landscaped, made minor repairs and more…all at no cost to the homeowner, and all through donations by people who care.
Sustainable Springfield is a 501c3 non-profit in Historic Springfield in Jacksonville, Florida. We are working to turn local liabilities into local assets. Our first project was to turn a vacant blighted lot in to a vibrant Community Garden. The community garden has been very successful and received a Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Award from the Mayor in 2010.
The Springfield Woman’s Club is one of the oldest Woman’s Clubs in Florida. Originally founded in 1904 by the women of Springfield who wanted to improve the amenities in the neighborhod, the Club today still adheres to the vision of these women.
Our projects have included the installation of bleachers with a canopy in the ball field in Klutho Park, the restoration of the beautiful fountain that was originally created to honor the memory of Mary Dillon, the first President of the Club, and the recreation of the Rose Garden in Confederate Park.
